Smaller rewards to reinforce a behavior

With the NBA Finals coming up, the Lakers appear to have some social psychologists on staff.

To boost the Lakers defense and get more players to take offensive charges, the Lakers are offering the players $50 incentives to take a charge. A charge can be often painful and not something a normal person would want to take considering how big other NBA players are. The $50 seems like little to nothing to these multi-million dollar players but as we have learned a small bonus would most likely lead to the greatest change in their behavior in wanting to take the charge. This will not for the money but by convincing them that they actually want to as discussed in the article.
