The Role of Masculinity

In this clip from the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, the character Gaston is disappointed about the fact that the heroine Bell does not find him attractive despite the fact that he believes he possesses all of the most amiable qualities necessary in a man. To cheer him up, the other characters sing about just how "wonderful" Gaston really is emphasizing that he is strong, aggressive, handsome, a hunter, a fighter, a provider etc. all contributing to the fact that he is the epitome of masculinity; therefore, there should be no reason why any woman would refuse him as a mate. And yet, it is important to take note of the fact that he needs to be cheered up because Bell has indeed refused him no matter the fact that he possesses all the "important" evolutionary qualities.
