In Gossip Girl, a character, Blair Waldorf is so worried about her self-image that she hires prostitutes to come to the fashion show she is hosting. In doing so, she is making sure that she will be viewed as popular among her friends. Although, this idea of "buying friends" is more present in cognitive dissonance among Eastern cultures, it was still interesting to see it play out in this show. Unfortunately, after searching I was not able to find a clip online displaying only this scene.
